Gifts for Lunar New Year

by Audrey Crone

As a child I used to love getting red envelopes for the Lunar New Year. This tradition only applies to children, of course, so I'm using this concept of giving as an excuse to give to friends and family in celebration of the new year. The twist this year? I thought it would be nice to give products that were created by Asian women.

Books

Lions in Winter by Wena Poon*

A collection of short stories chronicling the Singaporean diaspora, Wena Poon's Lions in Winter artfully depicts the "the 21st century journey of Singaporeans as they settle in the cities of New York, Los Angeles, London, Perth and Toronto."

The Queens of K Town by Angela Hur

Angela Hur's first novel is an engrossing story about "four damaged girls who love and avenge one another in the playground of New York’s Koreatown."

Fashion and Fun

Made by Dina

Dina Gan* has created some adorable necklaces and earrings. Another fun item she has is her Wish Bracelet. At $2 a pop, pick up a few to have on hand for fun little gifts.

The Original Sushi Pillow

The Original Sushi Pillow started with a mention from Cindy Tomm about wanting a sushi roll pillow and Mel Maghuyop responding by making one. Now anyone can pick up one of these fun items on their website, SushiPillows.com
