PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Dear Jade,

I think I'm falling for my friend's older brother. He's been hanging out with us a lot since he just moved back. He's funny, cute and a really great guy. I'd really like to go out with him but I'm worried about my friendship with his sister. What should I do?

Julia

HE SAID:

Dear Julia:

I think you should have a talk with your friend first and state your intentions. This way, your friend will not be blind-sided. That being said, your friend may already know your interest by your body language when you are all together. In short, I don’t see anything wrong. So long as both of you click, that is all that matters. I say, announce it to your friend, then ask her brother out. After a few dates, you will know if he is right for you. There is always a chance that if things do not work out, your friendship with his sister could get awkward.

SHE SAID:

You better think this out before you do anything because this has the possibility of getting pretty complicated. If things go well, you'll have your friend and a boyfriend. If things don't, you'll have nothing since it's going to be hard for your friend to stay neutral.

Even if you're willing to take the chance, you still might want to talk things over with your friend. At least give her a chance to prepare herself.

BUT MAMA SAID:

Has he shown any reciprocal interest in you? Or this is just him being friendly? You may want to figure this out before you act so that you don't end up hurt, embarrassed or without a friend.
