10 Questions for A.Lethi

By Audrey Crone

Based on your website, you are known as a"multi-skilled diva," that is pretty impressive title. If you could be well known for one title, what would it be?

An unconventional pioneer.

As an art lover, I was impressed by your paintings displayed on your website, what was your inspiration behind them?

I draw inspiration from many places. That particular piece of work was heavily inspired by my love for surrealism and my interest in human nature and behaviour. It draws from delving into the depths of one's subconscious bringing to surface the unconventional mind. The series is called "Soon There Might Not Be Anything Left".

Tell us about your new book.

Free Weights Training is aimed at both men and women and it's a comprehensive guide to safely and effectively using free weights as part of your fitness regime. Unlike many other books it's spiral-bound so it's easy to use either in the gym or at home. With the popularity of swiss ball training I also have a dedicated section that looks at how to incorporate the swiss ball into your workouts.

How did you come up with the concept?

Through my years of experience as a bodybuilder and strength trainer I often find there is still much confusion about training with free weights compared to using machines. It was a natural progression from my other books that had stronger emphasis on other areas of training such as in the gym, at home or using machines. The concept was very simple, there still is a need for a good all-round, easy to read book that de-mystifies free weights training and I hope I've been able to fill that void.

What can people expect to get out of your book?

An easy to read instructional fitness book, with easy to follow routines and diagrams that you can integrate into any daily workout. There is something for all levels from absolute beginners to the advanced who want to brush up on their weight training knowledge or learn a new routine.

Are you doing a book tour?

My book tour has been incorporated with other major entertainment events that I'm involved in this year. I'm on tour this whole year throughout various US states and across different countries.

Do you find Asian Americans to be interested in fitness training?

Yes of course! I'm the fitness guru for the first 24/7 Asian American network -- ImaginAsian Television and my health and fitness features on their channel are seen by over 10 million. By the many comments and emails that I receive by the Asian community on a daily basis just shows that our community has just as much interest in fitness and looking after our body as any other community. Fitness crosses all cultural barriers and I believe that everyone should take an avid interest in their own well-being and integrate a regular exercise regime into their daily routine.

Any fitness tip for busy women particularlystay-at-moms with young toddlers?

Fitness training doesn't have to be a chore you can do a simple routine in 10 minutes. Even walking up and down your staircase at home a few times burns calories and increases your heart rate. If you are a mom at home looking after your toddler, try taking your baby out in the stroller twice a day for a 30-minute walk, it will give you and the baby a break away from home. If you are working think of walking to the next train stop rather than taking the one closet to you. Make sure you get out of the office at lunch for a 30-minute walk. There is always a way to fit in exercise with a busy lifestyle.

What can we expect from you in the future?

I'm always involved in 10 different things at once. I seem to work best when I'm multi-tasking across multiple business genres. I'm hosting one of the biggest bodybuilding events ever held in the Caribbean later this year. This is a very exciting project and there will be a major media blitz across the US and the Caribbean for this shortly. There will also be some other projects branching out from this event in the US as well. I'm also in production of yet another book on top of being involved in some exciting fashion, TV and film projects.
